Real Time HIL Simulation

S-PLANE’s reconfigurable HILS-203R is the next generation upgrade of the HILS-202 Hardware In the Loop (HIL) Simulator. This simulator is implemented on a purpose-built, rugged and dedicated 19 inch rack mounted computer system to ensure reliable hard-real-time operation. The unit remains exceptionally flexible with modular hardware (such as an extended port break-out box) and software architectures allowing it to easily interface with external devices, including Flight Control Units (FCUs). FCU interfacing occurs at a sensor and actuator electrical protocol level, thus allowing the HILS to be adapted to various FCUs.

Simulation scenario conditions can be set up, saved and managed via the X-SIM Workbench operator interface. Events such as disturbances (e.g. wind gusts), soft or hard sensor and actuator failure conditions, etc. may be pre-programmed or triggered in real time to test subsystems as well as fully integrated aircraft systems. Mission simulation capability allows mission scenarios to be tailored and practiced in simulation prior to actual mission execution.

Developer licenses are available to users that wish to either adapt the HIL simulation or create their own simulations for hardware and software unrealted to S-PLANE products. In this sense, the HILS-203R unit becomes reconfigurable simulation target hardware.
